Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park.
On the 1st day of the safari, depending on your location, your safari guide will pick you either from Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Kampala. He will welcome you and then briefing about 5 days Uganda gorilla and Rwanda Karisimbi hiking safari. After the briefing you will start on your journey to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park in the south western part of Uganda and the journey takes you about 8 to 9 hours’ drive, through passing Masaka road. Along the way you will make a first stopover at the equator in Kayabwe to where you will take the stunning pictures, take coffee or simply purchase the souvenirs. After you will drive until Mbarara town, to where you will enjoy your en-route lunch, after lunch you will drive directly to the Bwindi with the thrilling views of the rolling hills, terraced farms and then be transferred to gorilla trekking sector, upon your arrival you will check in your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.
On the 2nd day of the safari, get up in the morning and then enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast together with your packed lunch, meet your safari guide and then transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped in various groups of about 8 members per group, and each group will be assigned with the experienced park ranger and park guide to lead them in the forest to look for the mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas, this is where you will trek through the steep, densely forested hills while fascinated with the various primates, bird species, and animal species and among many others in the forest. And once you find the gorillas you will be given one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas that is keeping 7 meters away from them. This is when you will watch the gorillas doing their daily activities like playing, grooming, feeding, mating and others. During that period that’s when you will take the pictures and then recording their videos. And after the experience you will trek back to the starting point and then your driver guide will transfer you to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Rwanda and to Volcanoes National Park.
Wake up early in the morning and enjoy your hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and then meet your safari guide and start your journey from Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park to cross over into Rwanda through Cyanika border, after you will continue with your journey to Ruhengeri or Kinigi to where Volcanoes national park is located with the en-route lunch in Musanze before reaching the park. Upon your arrival you will obtain your Mount Karisimbi hiking permit and then go to your lodge for check in. depending on your arrival time you can either visit the twin lakes that’s is Bulera and Ruhondo and then the next being visiting Iby’wacu cultural village later transfer to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Mount Karisimbi Hiking (Ascend).
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up in the morning and then enjoy breakfast after you will pack all your necessities during hiking with packed lunch, long-sleeved attire, warm sweater, hiking shoes, enough drinking water and among others. Then your safari driver will transfer you at the park headquarters to the briefing and after the briefing you will start ascending Mount Karimbi through the forest, with various attractions including primates, small mammals, and various bird species and among others. This hiking takes you about 6 to 7 hour to ascend up to 3700 meters above the sea level to where you will camp for dinner and overnight stay then waiting to the summit on top the following day as the summit stands about 4705 meters.
Day 5: Descend Mount Karisimbi and transfer to Kigali.
On the last day of the safari, wake up and enjoy breakfast, you will continue to ascend for the remaining 1000 meters to get to the top of Mount Karisimbi at 4705 meters. When you reach the summit you will be fascinated with the great stunning views of crater lakes, viewing of the neighboring countries, and among others, this is the moment to take the beautiful pictures, and then relax abit, later you will start descending back to the starting point to where you will be picked up by your safari driver and then transferred for lunch before you start on your joinery back to Kigali. And once you reach to Kigali your safari driver will transfer you to your preferred location either Kigali International Airport that will make your safari.
